Case Packing Coffee Pouches
Interview
Christophe BOITARD, Maintenance Manager and Technical Director at DESTINATION BIO
Could you introduce yourself and your company?
DESTINATION BIO is a factory specialising in coffee roasting and loose-leaf tea packaging. Based in Bordeaux for 25 years, it was acquired by the ECOTONE Group in 2016. I am the site’s Maintenance Manager and Technical Director.
In 2022, you chose to invest in automating a coffee-pouch line. Could you explain the context of the project?
We had an obsolete production line whose equipment needed modernising. As part of a continuous-improvement approach and to anticipate our customers’ future needs, we decided to upgrade our industrial equipment. This led us to define a new specification for the installation of an optimised production line.
How did you hear about JYGA, and what convinced you to choose this solution?
We discovered JYGA through one of our partners, our case supplier, with whom we had already worked on an RSC case packer. As we wanted to move towards a wrap-around solution, they naturally recommended JYGA.
What convinced us first and foremost was the relevance of the proposed technical solution and JYGA’s collaborative approach. We were looking for a genuine partnership with our supplier, and JYGA demonstrated its ability to meet our expectations.
What feedback do the teams have today?
The feedback is very positive. The equipment is so easy to use that you barely notice it in day-to-day operation. Format changeovers take just five minutes, which makes operation much easier. In short, it is an effective, high-performance solution that fully satisfies our teams.
You selected JYGA’s carbon-offset option, which contributes to tree planting in France. Why was this important to you?
We chose this option from the very beginning of the project because it fully reflects our values. We have a strong commitment to sustainable development and fairness in everything we do. Our production is exclusively organic and we are B Corp certified. This approach forms part of a direction we have been pursuing for the past two years.
A wrap-around case packer for coffee pouches was installed in a new production facility inaugurated less than a year ago. Further projects are planned.
