Case Packer for Crop Protection Cartons

JYGA designed an RSC case packer for a company specialising in crop protection and seeds for farmers. This case packer packs cartons containing crop-protection products. Fitted with a 6-axis robot, it receives the cartons, forms the cases, loads the cartons into the cases, and then closes and discharges the full cases.

Project & solution

The compact case packer combines three functions in one cell: case forming, case packing, and case closing/discharge.

A specific feature of this machine is the integration of an aggregation solution that checks and tracks every case using a unique code.

Machine operation:

1. Product infeed
   The cartons arrive upright on a conveyor.
    
2. Case forming
   Cardboard blanks are placed in the case-packer magazine by the operator. They are then picked by a manipulator arm, which opens the blank before it is formed using its flaps.
    
3. Carton case packing
   Depending on the line, cartons are separated into batches of one or two and transferred to the robot. The case-packing robot, fitted with a gripper, picks the waiting batch and places it into the case. The operation is repeated until the case is full, at a rate of 3 to 6 cases/min.
    
4. Case inspection and discharge
   Each case is labelled with a unique code. If the case is complete, sensors detect the Data Matrix code on each carton and the case label. The case is finally transferred to the case taper.
