Palletizer for Wrap-Around Cases

This application was developed for a company specialising in industrial microbiology for the food, cosmetics and biopharmaceutical industries. The company asked JYGA to supply an automatic palletizing cell for cases containing serum pouches.
The palletizer had to receive cases from the wrap-around case-packer outfeed, receive stacks of pallets loaded manually, receive layer pads loaded manually, palletize the cases and discharge the full pallets.

Project & solution

To meet this requirement, JYGA recommended installing a single-line palletizer.

Stacks of flat layer-pad blanks are loaded manually by the operator. The magazine holds 140 layer pads, providing at least approximately three hours of autonomy for a 2.5 mm thickness.

Stacks of empty pallets are placed by the operator in a pallet destacker while it is stopped. The destacker restarts automatically after operator validation. Each stack can contain up to 12 pallets, giving a total autonomy of 2 x 12 pallets.

Cases arrive from the case packer and accumulate against a retractable stop before being released one at a time for each robot pick.
The robot picks each case individually using its clamp gripper and places it on the pallet being built at the palletizing station. The gripper can also pick layer pads using retractable suction cups.

The full pallet is then transferred through a light curtain to the pickup station outside the safety zone. Up to three full pallets can be stored after the palletizing station. An operator can then safely remove a pallet using a forklift truck.
