Mixed Case Packing for Cookies

This application was developed for a French group specialising in the manufacture of biscuits, rusks and long-life pastries.

To maintain its leading position, the group continually seeks to improve the performance of its production lines. The company therefore contacted JYGA for an automatic mixed-product case-packing solution.

The case packer had to receive stacks of flat cardboard blanks, receive cases for mixed-product packing when required, form the cases, load the products, close the cases, form lids and place the lids on the full cases.

Project & solution

To meet this requirement, JYGA recommended installing a wrap-around case packer for mixed-product cases from the standard JYGA case-packer range. The machine includes a magazine for PAV-style case blanks and a magazine for lid blanks, a case-forming module and a module for loading products into the case.

For the mixed-product format, cases arrive on a conveyor already filled with product A from a previous production run.

At the end of the conveyor, the case is isolated and clamped at the robot pickup station. The robot first picks a layer of cartons and places it in the empty case. It then picks a layer of product-B cartons standing on edge from the preparation station.

The chain conveyor advances, and the robot places the case partially filled with product-A cartons on the RSC case former at the second conveyor station. Finally, it completes the case with a new layer of product-B cartons from the preparation station.
