Decasing and Case Packing Trays

This project was designed for a logistics provider that receives RSC cases containing prepared-meal trays for an industrial customer and unpacks them. The trays are then repacked into a different type of case, namely cardboard shelf-ready cases.
To meet its customer’s requirements, JYGA supplies a module that unpacks RSC cases and repacks the trays into cardboard shelf-ready cases.

Project & solution

To meet this requirement, JYGA proposed a machine combining both unpacking and case-packing functions in a single solution, with an optional mixed-product mode. Incoming cases are inspected by a camera to verify the correct orientation of the food trays.
At this station, a 4-axis robot empties the case by placing the food trays on a table. The trays then pass through an inspection/marking process in which a labeller applies a sticker to each tray and an inkjet mark is added.
At the same time, a tray former forms the outgoing cardboard shelf-ready cases. Once formed, the cases are presented in front of the batches of food trays prepared upstream. A 4-axis robot fitted with a suction-cup gripper picks the batch of trays and places it into the outgoing case.
Once filled, the cases are labelled and inspected before being discharged.
