Case Packing for Pet Food Kibble

This application was developed for a national leader in the design and manufacture of dry pet food. The company asked JYGA to supply an automatic case-packing system for stand-up pouches of pet-food kibble.

Project & solution

To meet this requirement, JYGA recommended installing a robotic top-load case-packing module.

The products arrive lying flat, bottom first and with the facing side down. The sachets are then transferred one by one onto a lower perpendicular conveyor. This conveyor indexes step by step, prepares batches of two and then distributes them onto a continuously moving conveyor.

A case former/taper supplies formed, open cases lengthwise onto a conveyor.

A retractable stop positions the case in front of the loading station. At this station, the case is clamped and the following case is stopped.

For PAV-style case packing, the isolated case is tilted by a value set according to the format to facilitate filling.

The prepared batch is then placed into the case by the robot using its gripper. The robot performs two successive picks using vision information to locate and pick the sachets precisely.

The full case is then released and discharged by the conveyor while a new empty case is positioned.
