Company

The world’s leading dairy group, specialising in the production of premium butter and cream, called on JYGA to improve the productivity of its production line by optimising product case packing. JYGA therefore developed an automated solution for packing blocks of butter into cases. The JYGA butter-block case packer had to receive stacks of flat case blanks, receive the butter blocks, place them into the case, close the case and discharge it.

Project & solution

JYGA’s solution for case packing blocks of butter

To meet the customer’s needs, JYGA proposed the installation of a wrap-around case packer for blocks of butter. The butter blocks arrive individually from an existing packaging machine. At the same time, flat cardboard blanks are manually loaded by an operator into the case-packer magazine. The blank is positioned in a U shape between the chain lugs. Non-conforming butter blocks are rejected, while conforming products continue along the conveyor towards the case-packing station. A vacuum gripper picks six products at a time and places them into the previously formed case. At the next station, the case flaps are folded and glued. The case is discharged onto a conveyor.

Multi-format case packing for blocks of butter

The JYGA case packer can pack butter blocks into several types of case, whether open or closed. Case-format changes are performed digitally through several adjustments, including the magazine setting. The operating mode is validated at the control panel. Format changeover takes no more than 10 minutes.

A connected solution for packing blocks of butter

The latest-generation JYGA wrap-around case packer is supplied with an intuitive, easy-to-use 15-inch human-machine interface. This HMI makes butter-block case packing connected. The operator can monitor production in real time and create preventive-maintenance alerts. Selective-memory cameras are also installed on the case-packing module. Videos of specific events are recorded so that the operator can review potential faults on the HMI. Case-packing information is reported in real time.
