Company

This wrap-around case packer was designed for an international dairy group specialising in cheese and dairy products.
To optimise the end of a production line at one of its plants, the group contacted JYGA for an automatic case-packing solution for 190 g and 250 g cheese trays and round film-wrapped cheeses.
The future installation had to receive stacks of flat case blanks, receive the cheeses, form the cases, pack the cheeses, close the cases, integrate a labeller, discharge full cases and ensure operator safety.

Project & solution

To meet this requirement, JYGA recommended the installation of a wrap-around case packer for shelf-ready cases.

Product batch management and preparation

Triangular trays arrive on a conveyor. At the case-packer infeed, the trays are turned and then positioned vertically. Depending on the required packing format, the 6-axis robot transfers the trays in rows of 4, 5 or 6 units.
The round cheeses are conveyed towards the case packer. At the machine infeed, a barcode reader reads the weight of each cheese. At the case-packing station, they are prepared in batches of four. The 6-axis robot, fitted with its gripper, slides the batch into the case.

Case packing

In parallel with product arrival, the case packer forms the shelf-ready cases. Cardboard blanks are loaded flat into the machine magazine. A manipulator picks a blank and forms it between the chain lugs. The 6-axis robot places the products into the case using its gripper. The various case flaps are then folded and glued.

The glue application is checked during transfer to the rejection station.

Case closing and discharge

The cases are transferred onto an outfeed conveyor incorporating a labeller. The cases are discharged for collection and manual palletising.

Benefits of the JYGA solution

  • Multi-format: handles 3 cheese formats.
  • Dual infeed: triangular trays and round film-wrapped cheeses.
  • 6-axis robot: transfers products in optimised rows.
  • Integrated inspection: barcode reading and glue-checking.
  • In-line labelling: marked cases ready for logistics.
  • Optimised end of line: cases discharged for straightforward palletising.
