Wrap-Around Case Packing for Butter Portions

This application was developed for a dairy cooperative. The cooperative launched a major investment programme to maintain the spirit of innovation and performance that drives its development. It therefore contacted JYGA for a project involving robotic case packing of butter portions.

The installation had to receive stacks of flat case blanks, receive products from a checkweigher, form the cases, load the products, close the cases, turn the cases, integrate an existing labeller and then discharge the full cases.

Solution

To meet this requirement, JYGA recommended installing a wrap-around case packer for close-fitting shelf-ready cases.

The butter portions arrive crosswise with the facing side down at a height of approximately +850 mm. They are then taken up on a conveyor and accumulated at its end. At this station, a pusher transfers the portions to an accumulation conveyor.

At the case-packing station, a layer of butter portions is transferred onto the two-axis manipulator. The manipulator then transfers the layer into the case and places it in position. It repeats the placements required for each packaging format.

At the following stations, the case flaps are glued and pressed. The cases are closed using close-fitting shelf-ready flaps, and the machine has five stations.
