Company

This application was developed for a French company, the country’s second-largest supplier of consumer meat products. The company wanted to improve its production performance and therefore asked JYGA to supply a complete packaging line (flow-pack loading, cartoning, case packing and palletising).
The function described here is wrap-around case packing.

Project & solution

To meet this requirement, JYGA recommended the installation of a wrap-around case packer for closed cases.

The case packer includes a take-off conveyor, an accumulation conveyor, a system for holding batches of cartons on edge, a FANUC robot with different grippers, a chain-and-folding conveyor, an inkjet marking system and a two-sided labeller.

The cartons arrive lengthwise from the checkweigher. They are transferred sideways onto a conveyor. At the end of this conveyor, the cartons accumulate and, depending on the format, are either tipped onto their edge or left flat.

Flat cardboard blanks are manually loaded into a belt magazine. A vacuum gripper destacks the bottom blank and positions it in a U shape between two transfer-chain lugs. At the next station, the case is presented in front of the loading module. A robot fitted with a vacuum gripper inserts the batches of cartons. At the following stations, the case flaps are glued and then pressed.

At the case-packer outfeed, full cases are discharged lengthwise onto a conveyor where a print head is integrated. The two-sided labeller is installed at the case-packer outfeed.
