A customer in the butter and dairy industry contacted JYGA to improve its production line. JYGA recommended installing a multi-format wrap-around case packer. The objective of this solution is to automate case packing of rolled butter with flexibility and autonomy. The machine must accommodate the customer’s different case formats and products. It forms cases from flat cardboard blanks, loads the rolled butter using a manipulator, then closes and discharges the cases.
Project & solution
How the rolled-butter case packer works
JYGA, a specialist in butter case packing since 1992, developed a solution for packing rolled butter into cases. The wrap-around case packer forms the cases from flat cardboard blanks loaded manually into the magazine by operators. Each blank is positioned in a U shape between two lugs on the chain. The rolled butter accumulates at the end of a conveyor to form product batches. The manipulator picks the batches, turns the rolled butter and loads it into the pre-formed case. The case is transferred to the closing station and then discharged on the outfeed conveyor.
A flexible, multi-format case-packing solution
The JYGA customer uses several case and product formats, so the rolled-butter case-packing solution must be flexible. It accommodates close-fitting shelf-ready cases, trays, cases with lids and wrap-around cases. The JYGA machine allows the customer to change case formats quickly and easily. A trained operator makes the required technical adjustments on the case packer and then validates all settings from the control panel. A format change takes less than 10 minutes.
Connected rolled-butter case packing
The JYGA rolled-butter case packer is equipped with a new intuitive human-machine interface on a 15-inch touchscreen. The display shows messages and allows information and commands to be entered. Operators can work independently thanks to HMI alerts, access machine videos and documentation in real time, monitor production, select options and access maintenance functions. Coloured LEDs identify the location of a machine fault, while the same area is displayed simultaneously on the HMI.
